Or by free-spirited hippies making protests in the sixties.
It is not the absence of pain or fear or stress.
It's being in the midst of those things and acting with poise and finesse.
Peace is a complex idea; it's not given to the naive.
It's given only to those who understand that it's the highest you can achieve.
It has infinite power to reconcile friendship and overcome the power of wars.
Peace is the gift that keeps on giving, always opening up new doors.
I really liked how you explained what peace isn't before explaining what it is. This poem flows really well and is very powerful. I also liked how you said peace is a complex idea because it really is. If it were simple, there would be no fighting and everyone would get along. Great job explaining what peace is!
ReplyDeleteI like how it didn't really rhyme but sometimes it did and it flowed really well. I expecially liked the end line because its true, if we can achive it.
ReplyDeleteHippies, sixties. good rhyme. Carly u have a solid grasp of the art of poetry and i like how you understood that peace is a complex issue and cannot be solved through simple methods. well done
ReplyDeletei really liked how your word choice was chosen so well it just sorta flowed and i enjoyed reading it.
ReplyDeleteReally good piece!!! My favorite line would have to be... "Or by free-spirited hippies making protests in the sixties" because the image of hippies is still in my mind after reading this poem. You did a very good job with the flow and rhythm of this piece even though the rhyme didn't seem very sturctured. Be proud of yourself!!!!
ReplyDeleteCarly, clearly your readers love your poem and connect with it. I like your rhythm and rhyme, but I had a question about the line breaks - did you mean for "finesse" to be on its own line or did you just run out of space? Same for the other two instances of single word lines. I like your line "It's not the absence of pain, fear, or stress." Because that is often how we simplify this idea of peace. Nice work.
