Walking the street after school
My eye catches asphalt,
Black and burnt
A crack running down for about 10 feet
A piece of scrap metal,
Sitting alone
My vision drifts to a glimmer of silver:
A sterling locket containing a picture,
An unknown face
Who could this be?
And what of their loved ones?
More importantly, who would commit such an act?
who COULD commit such an act?
They tell themselves paradise awaits
But hell on earth is no fine sight

I really like this poem maxx. It shows just how many people are affected by a suicide bomber. It makes me think about how many people i have seen in my life and how they all have stories.
ReplyDelete"Who could commit such an act?" this is a timeless question and this poem really captures the absurdity of the modern world. It makes me think about the situtation in the middle east through the eyes or a mere child and how they must view this terrible conflict. I am very impressed with this beautiful work of art.
ReplyDeleteMaxx I like the ending...powerful and true. You focus on one clear and distinct image of a locket, which makes this a memorable poem. Great job with line breaks and making every word count.
ReplyDeleteI like the line "They tellthemselves paradise awaits" because it shows how messed up the suicide bombers are. I also liked the objects you used to describe the scene. like scrap metal. It makes the scene very real. I like your poem!
ReplyDeleteMaxx, I really like the point of view in your poem. You also add many allusions that help the reader put themselves into the shoes of the person in your poem. good job
