Ancestor's Voices - Shane Kinney

The trees rustling in the wind,
The rivers turning into oceans,
can you hear them?
The lion running through the jungle,
The owl flying in the night sky,
can you hear them?
People wandering the land,
The voices of your ancestor's,
They are calling, can you hear them?
Where has the kindness gone?
Why has the compassion left?
The message is there in the earth,
can you hear it?

  1. i could tell you that having question is not very good idea well many but if you have more than one question it make the reader not wanting to read it so it is good but think about the message of the poem

  2. i actually really liked the question it was a nice motif throughout the poem that really allowed me to stop and think each time. I feel like it definitely added to the poem.

  6. Shane, although this poem is written simply, it is not simplistic in it's theme and depth. I love the natural imagery and the repeated questions... I also like how you leave the meaning open for interpretation at the end of the poem... "The message is there in the earth." I'd like to believe it is a message of peace and balance.
