"The Compassionate, The Merciful"

Bism'Allah
Al-Rahman
Al-Raheem
May His Scourge Sweep the Sands
May the corrupted earth be
Torn asunder
May the towers of the unbelievers
Crumble and Fall
And may the Souls of the
Faithful Rejoice
For Victory is Theirs

May these Glorious Plumes
Light the Sky
And warm the Heavens
May their Brilliance dim the Stars,
If only for a Moment,
Shrouding their Divine Grace:
A veil of Triumph
May this Holy Flame
Shine
In the Boundless Depths
Of Almighty Allah's
Eyes
And may the unbelievers
Cower in fear,
Illuminated by the Radiant Fire

Bism'Allah
Al-Rahman
Al-Raheem

Paradise Awaits

  3. Funke, this poem feels mystical and divine...wonderful job taking on the voice of a prophet - I think your exploration into the Koran paid off here. Nice job with line breaks and emphasizing individual words. I also like how your centered your poem around 9/11 (I may be interpreting it too closely) - but it gives a perspective that many Americans don't want to look at.
